The La Grange Art League is proud to announce a new program for children, Starts with Art.

The La Grange Art League is excited to give back to the community by sponsoring children and teens with free art classes and art camps with all supplies included. The director of the program, Kathi Parisi of La Grange Park stated, “It has been well documented that art plays a vital role in the complete development of children. Our goal is to keep art alive for all kids in the area.” While teaching an after school art program at Cossitt School, Parisi recalls working with one very talented student. Because of his family situation, he was not able to take classes outside of day school. It was then she realized there was a real need to provide art classes for children of all socioeconomic levels. “This student inspired me to develop a program where all talented students would have the opportunity to take various classes and camps at La Grange Art League.” Thus Starts with Art was born.

The La Grange Art League began the Send a Kid to Art campaign to raise money which would offset the costs of class supplies. Through generous community donations Starts with Art procured $865 for their budget and they began their search for applicants. Local schools were contacted to help find exemplary students who displayed an interest and talent in art. “We will strive to accept as many students as our funding will allow, and we hope to continue this program for many years to come. On behalf of the art league, I would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the many private and business donors which made Starts with Art possible for all the children of our community,” said Parisi who teaches at District 95 and is also a children’s art instructor at La Grange Art League.
