Silvermoon Salon pays it forward and helps BEDS clients to look, feel their best

When Silvermoon Salon owner Kelly Douglas saw a BEDS social media post about LTHS Social Action Club students volunteering their time to clean our shelter sites, Kelly knew she had to do something to thank the students and pay it forward.

"When I saw that [post on Instagram], I thought 'oh, how good,'" said Kelly, who has worked with the Constance Morris house in the past. "For me, [donating salon services] was really amazing."

So Kelly reached out to BEDS and the students with an offer. She would treat the students to a free haircut as a reward and she also wanted to pamper BEDS clients with a day at the salon, located at 711 W. Hillgrove in La Grange. A group of four female BEDS clients were recently treated to haircuts and an opportunity to feel pampered. The women not only left the salon fully styled but they were also given some donated hair care products so they can look and feel their best on job interviews and more.

Kelly plans to donate the salon's services to BEDS clients on a regular basis. Not only is it an opportunity for her employees to get practice and experience, it's also a way Kelly can give back to her community and inspire others to do the same. Kelly also hopes to further help clients with clothing vouchers so they can get proper outfits for job interviews.

"In the end it's about trying to make folks feel good about themselves and I hope we did that," she said.
